South Berwick man accused of threatening circuit court judge

AUGUSTA, Maine - A South Berwick man was indicted Monday on charges that he threatened a judge.

Christopher Butler, 36, faces two counts of making threats against a circuit court judge, according to a Tuesday press release from the Attorney Generals Office.

It is alleged Butler called a general phone number for the state court system and threatened Judge Philip Cross. Butler made the threat to influence and retaliate against the judge, the complaint states.

Butler, who also allegedly threatened Cross in March on the same phone number, is being held on preventative detention while awaiting his arraignment.
