ROCHESTER - After more than two months of rehearsals and almost three years since the last Spaulding High theater production was put on at the high school, the production of "Seussical the Musical" will premier Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Joanne Houston Auditorium at Spaulding.
Spaulding High Band and Chorus Director Nikki Luciano-Bourgeois said the play is based predominantly on Dr. Seuss' Horton hears a Who, which was made into a computer-animated adventure movie in 2008.

Elements of other Seuss favorites like Gertrude McFuzz, and Horton Hatches the Egg also show up in this thoroughly entertaining storyline.

"The kids are extremely excited," said Luciano-Bourgeois. "This is our first show in the auditorium since 2020 when our run of Music Man got canceled due to COVID after one show.

She added that anyone in the audience who has seen the musical before will notice the Spaulding High production has added some twists.

"Theatergoers should look for a slightly different version of Seussical," she said. "There is a lot happening on stage many moments of the show. Even as the director, I find new things I see every single time I watch the show. The kids are great at engaging audience members and telling this fantastic story."

The production will run through March 26, with 7 p.m. shows on March 18, March 24 and March 25 and 1 p.m. matinees on March 19 and March 26.
Tickets cost $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults.
