Speed blamed in crash that kills 21-year-old Dover woman

CANDIA - A Dover woman was killed early today in a single-car crash on Route 101.

Ashley Shunk, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Kia Forte, Christopher Wadleigh, 27, of Hampton, was taken to Exeter Hospital with nonspecific injuries.

State police said they responded around 1:15 a.m. to Route 101 eastbound in Candia where it was determined the Kia was traveling eastbound when its driver lost control and the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and down an embankment. It came to a stop among a grove of trees, police said.

Route 101 eastbound, from Exit 2 to Exit 3, was closed for around four hours.

Police say speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

State police are asking any who may have info on the crash to call Trooper First Class Brian Ross at (603) 223-8652 or email him at Brian.Ross@dos.nh.gov.
