State Police probe crash involving Rochester man

PORTSMOUTH - State Police are investigating a crash involving a pedestrian who was severely injured in Portsmouth when he was struck Monday night by a box truck driven by a Rochester man.

Police say the incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. when the man was struck in the vicinity of the Route 1 Bypass southbound at Middle Road.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Jeffrey Argereow, 46, of Portsmouth, was walking northbound in the southbound travel lane of the Route 1 Bypass when he was struck by a white 2005 International Harvester box truck being driven southbound by Charles Drost, 57, of Rochester.

Argereow received what were described as serious but nonlife-threatening injuries and was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital bya ambulance.

The southbound side of the Route 1 Bypass was closed in the area of the crash for about ane hour as Troopers from Troop A in Epping conducted their investigation and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Assisting on scene were members of the Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Fire & Rescue, and NH State Police Troop-G.
