Suicide suspected in Dover Transportation Center death

DOVER - The Dover Police Department and the Office of The Chief Medical Examiner are currently investigating a suspected suicide that occurred in Dover on Friday.

Dover Police and Dover Fire and Rescue responded to the scene at the Dover Transportation Center parking lot around 1:24 p.m. for a report of an unconscious individual in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, they located the body of George Tilton, 23, who was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of a gunshot wound. Tilton, a Washington Street resident, was the owner of the vehicle in which he was found.

Passers-by notified police after seeing Tilton slumped in the vehicle. While ultimately the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of Tilton's death, based on the investigation to date, it appears to be a suicide that occurred that morning.

This case is being investigated by the Dover Police Department's Special Investigations Bureau.
