CONCORD - The governor on Thursday signed an executive order designed to make state employees and work spaces more civil and respectful.

The order applies to all state workers and officials.

"Granite Staters have always taken great pride in the care and concern we show for those within our communities," said Gov. Chris Sununu. "This Executive Order marks a significant step forward for ensuring that our state employees are afforded the respect they rightfully deserve in the workplace."

Charlie Arlinghaus, Commissioner of the Department of Administrative Services, whose department will be in charge of compliance, added, "There is nothing more important than the respect and professionalism with which we treat both our colleagues and our customers. Treating our fellow employees in a civil manner is simply common sense, and today's Executive Order is a huge step forward for New Hampshire."

The language of the bill doesn't specifically speak to customer service, but centers on employees' relationships with one another and their supervisors.

The bill orders the Dept. of Administrative Services to fully educate all state workers and officials regarding compliance and notes that managerial, supervisory and human resources personnel will get additional training.
