Surge in cases continues but hospitalization, death rates continue to decline

CONCORD - DHHS announced another whopping 249 positive test results for COVID-19 on Sunday, but figures show despite the current surge, the death and hospitalization rates for the virus continue to decline. The new cases include 25 minors and 27 from Strafford County. Four new hospitalized cases were reported for a current state total of 55. Local current case numbers continue elevated with 41 in Rochester, 64 in Dover, 11 in Somersworth, nine in Madbury and Farmington and 1-4 in Milton and Strafford. Despite the rising numbers, the official state death and hospitalization rates continue to drop due to increased testing. A month ago as the surge began the death rate was 5 percent; today it is 4 percent. Meanwhile, the hospitalization rate of 8 percent reflected on Oct. 9 is down to 6 percent today, a 25 percent drop.
