The Rochester Voice endorses Paul Callaghan for Rochester mayor

Mayoral candidate Paul Callaghan

Lifetime resident and career lawman Paul Callaghan is the best candidate the city has for mayor.

He has a vision for Rochester's future that combines innovative advances in the downtown and beyond while preserving and strengthening services like police and fire.

He will be a strong fiscal presence on the City Council who will ensure taxpayer money is spent soundly.

When The Rochester Voice asked him to describe his philosophy of government, he replied, "Local government should use citizens' resources efficiently, effectively and in ways that provide the most value. Local citizens expect their government to be fair and spend their tax dollars wisely and without waste."

He promises his tenure as mayor will bring a consistent, open, forthright, and commonsense approach to the office.

In a statement after filing his mayoral candidacy, Callaghan wrote, "I want to serve as your mayor for two reasons: "for 'love' of our community and to help keep Rochester a great place to live, work, and raise a family."

With that trajectory in mind, the city will be in good hands.

The Rochester Voice also endorses City Council candidates Skip Gilman, Jamie Radloff and Steve Beaudoin. The three all have business backgrounds that will serve Rochester well as it moves forward.

The Voice also endorses veteran councilors David Walker and Jim Gray for their government expertise and experience; and Laura Zimmerman, who will bring a fresh set of eyes to the table.

Don't forget to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
