BROOKFIELD - There should be snow a-plenty on Sunday, Feb. 8, the date for the second annual 'Moose Mountain Runaround' snowshoe race at Moose Mountain Recreation in Brookfield.

Race proceeds will benefit Moose Mountain Regional Greenways (MMRG), a land trust and educational outreach organization serving the seven towns of the Moose Mountains Region: Brookfield, Farmington, Middleton, Milton, New Durham, Wakefield, and Wolfeboro.

Last year's participants praised the attractiveness and variety of the 3.3-mile course, laid out by Race Director and MMRG Board member Dan Coons. Snowmobile trails and single track traverse rolling foothills, shallow ravines, beech and hemlock groves, open fields, wooden bridges over babbling brooks, and stands of big bull pines. The 2014 male and female winners finished in approximately 24-1/2 and 30 minutes respectively. Snowshoe walkers are welcome to take their time and enjoy the scenery!

The race begins at 10 a.m. at Moose Mountain Recreation, 107 Mountain Road, Brookfield. Suggested donations are $20 in advance or $25 on the race day. Dion Snowshoes will have loaner snowshoes available for an additional $5 on a first come first serve basis. Racers and volunteers will be eligible for prizes, refreshments, discounted tubing park admission and custom buffs. To preregister, reserve snowshoes, or for more info, go to www.granitestatesnowshoeseries.org or call at 603-520-8533. To volunteer, call MMRG Education Coordinator, Kari Lygren at 603-978-7125.

MMRG thanks Wolfeboro Oil Company, the business sponsor of this fundraiser. For more information on MMRG, visit www.mmrg.info.
