Those wishing to honor vets with flag dedication can do so Memorial Day

ROCHESTER - The City of Rochester will be hosting the "Field of Honor" over Memorial Day weekend at the Rochester Common.

The 500-flag display begins at 10 a.m. on May 29 and ends May 31 at 6 p.m.:

Each flag will be dedicated to a Veteran (living or deceased) who has served this country. Attached to the flagpole will be a silk yellow ribbon, and a laminated card showing the veteran's name, branch, rank, and branch seal. In the center of the display will be the flags of veterans that have passed away as a result of their military service. Around the perimeter and inside walkways will be all other veterans.

"This moving display will not soon be forgotten," said organizer Jeanne Grover.

Anyone who would like to dedicate a flag(s) to a family member, friend, acquaintance, or to one of the 92 New Hampshire veterans who have lost their lives while in service since the Global War on Terrorism began on September 11, 2001, please do so at www.vouchersforveterans.org. You may fill out your form online or download an application if you wish to mail a check. Each dedication is $40. You will have the option to allow Vouchers for Veterans to retain your flag for a future event or have the flag, yellow ribbon, and laminated card mailed to you or you may pick them up on June 5, 2021, between the hours of 2-6 p.m. at the Rochester American Legion.

The sponsor of the event is Vouchers for Veterans, a 501-c-3 charity dedicated to providing fresh food vouchers to veterans for the purchase of locally grown and prepared food at local Farmers Markets. All profits from the event will go to further their mission.
