Milton and Rochester voters head to the polls today for a heavy slate of primary voting, which is expected to draw a heavier turnout from Republicans than Democrats due, in part, to the high profile and acrimonious campaign between incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Republican challenger Scott Brown, who is facing a primary test today in which he'll have to get by former U.S. Sen. Bob Smith and others to get a shot at Shaheen in November.

Voting in Milton runs from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Emma Ramsey Center, while in Rochester voting precincts throughout the city will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voters will decide between the following candidates in races for Democrats:

For governor, Ian Freeman, Maggie Hassan, Clecia Terrio.

For state representative (Milton), Cory R. Mattocks, Larry Brown, Candace Cole-McCrea.

For Register of Deeds, Dennis P. Vachon, Catherine A. Berube.

For County Commissioner, George Maglaras, Robert J.. Watson, Leo E. Lessard.

Republicans will choose candidates:

For governor, Jonathan Smolin, Daniel J. Greene, Walt Haverstein, Andrew Hemingway

For U.S. Senator, Robert d'Arcy, Miro Dziedzic, Mark W. Farnham, Bob Heghmann, Walter W. Kelly, Andy Martin, Jim Rubens, Bob Smith, Gerard Beloin, Scott P. Brown.

For U.S. Representative, Dan Innis, Everett Jabour, Brendan Kellly, Frank C. Guinta.

Rochester Democrats will choose a state representative for Strafford County District 9, which includes Rochester Ward 2, with a primary vote between Sandra B. Keans and Joe Tanner; and in Strafford County District 22, which comprises Rochester Wards 1 and 6, Democrats Rose Marie Rogers and "human" will vie for the nomination.
In addition, there are also several uncontested races in both Milton and Rochester.
