Tractor-trailer jack-knife snarls 202 traffic

ALFRED, Msine - Route 202 in Alfred was closed for a time on Monday after a tractor trailer that jack-knifed in the roadway about 2 p.m..

Trooper Matt Williams said the incident occurred when a pickup traveling south on Route 202 near the State Police Troop A Barracks slowed down for a left turn, and a tractor-trailer unit behind it jack-knifed when it slowed to avoid a collison.

Roads in Alfred had just started to become snow covered at the time of the crash. The cab of the trailer truck was seriously damaged, and the fuel tanks were punctured, prompting Department of Environmental Protection and MDOT workers to be dispatched.

Goodwins' Mills and Alfred Fire Departments responded and assisted with traffic control. The driver of the tractor trailer, Manuel Almanzar, was not injured in the crash.
