LEBANON - A set of stoplights at the corner of Route 202 and Little River and Depot roads was torn down on Thursday by an eastbound flatbed trailer carrying an excavator.

The incident happened around 9 a.m.

According to a utility worker repairing the lights at the scene, the rig sheared off some of the metal from a stoplight on the west side of the intersection before taking out the pair on the east side completely.

Apparently the police caught up with the driver later on as he headed east into Sanford. It wasn't clear whether the driver knew what he had done or not.

State Police were not immediately available for comment.

The worker said he expected all the lights to be up and running again by early Thursday afternoon.

In the meantime temporary stop signs and caution cones were put out by Lebanon Fire and Rescue personnel.
