Two nabbed in major Sanford area heroin bust

SANFORD - Two Sanford residents were arrested on Monday after Maine DEA and Sanford Police say they found them with some $4,000 worth of heroin that was targeted for sale in the Sanford area.

Danny G. Taylor, 27, and Christine Butler, 39, were both charged with Aggravated Trafficking in Heroin, a Class A felony.

Lawmen said they seized 25 grams, equivalent to 250 individual doses of the deadly drug.

The two agencies had been investigating suspected drug trafficking in the Sanford area and zoomed in on the pair when it was revealed through investigation Taylor and Butler were selling heroin from a room they rented at the Super 8 Motel in Sanford, according to a MDEA press release.

Butler was already known to agents as she was out on bail for three separate drug trafficking related charges, while Taylor also had an outstanding arrest warrant for unpaid fines.

On Monday afternoon drug agents and Sanford Police searched their motel room and seized 25 grams of heroin and $3,450 in cash. The seized heroin had a street value of $4,000.

As police entered the motel room,, Taylor tried to throw a bag of heroin out a window, which contained 18 grams of the drug, the press release said.

Both Taylor and Butler were arrested and transported to the York County Jail. Taylor's bail was set at $10,000 cash, while Butler was held without bail pending her appearance before a judge.

Both face up to 30 years if convicted.
