Update: Several arrests made in connection with ongoing standoff

SOMERSWORTH - Police are asking the public to stay away from a SWAT-team standoff in the area of 219 Green St. in Somersworth.

The standoff began around 8:30 p.m. last night and continues as of this posting.

Police say there have been multiple arrests for a variety of charges as a result of this operation.

Currently on hand at the standoff scene are Somersworth Police, members of the Strafford County Drug Task Force and Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit, Seacoast Emergency Response Team and the New Hampshire State Police SWAT team.

Safety officials said any potential threat has been contained and there is no immediate danger to the public.

However, they are asking the public to avoid the area of Green Street between Stackpole Road and Indigo Hill Road while this is in progress.

Numerous explosions have been heard in the area, including several overnight.
