Veterans' Time aims to help navigate VA programs

ROCHESTER - The Rochester Senior Activity Center recently unveiled a program called :Veterans' Time" aimed at helping veterans navigate the VA system and connect with other veterans for guidance and support.

Led by Rochester veteran Jerry Vermette, Veterans' Time provides a safe and welcoming space for veterans to share their stories, laugh, vent, and meet other vets.

Vermette is a Rochester native, Class of '64. Although he does not work for the Veteran's Association, he is passionate about helping veterans and knows many people do not realize the many benefits they are entitled to.

"Navigating the VA system can be confusing and frustrating, but you don't have to do it alone," said Vermette. "You're not going to come in and get a solution, you're going to come in to get a path." As the program grows, Vermette hopes to schedule VA representatives to meet directly with the group to talk about medical and financial benefits."

All veterans are welcome to drop in and say hello at the Rochester Senior Activity Center, located at 150 Wakefield Street. Veterans' Time runs Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Veterans are also invited to join 'Vet to Vet Café' on April 4 from 10-11 a.m.. This event is a partnership between Cornerstone VNA, a local nonprofit home health organization, and the Recreation Department. This is an open space for veterans to connect with other veterans in the community to simply listen to each other, share stories or just enjoy a cup of coffee.
