LEBANON, Maine - State Police have identified the man who died in a Friday night crash in Lebanon as Michael Meattey of Barrington, N.H.

Meattey, 55, was driving friend and local musician Ron Jones home to Milton from the annual medical marijuana festival on Center Road around 8:30 p.m. when he lost control of his pickup truck, Maine State Police Trooper Rick Spicer said today.

"It appears he swerved off the road, caught the soft shoulder, and overcorrected," Spicer said, adding that the truck spun around 180 degrees and rolled over.

"Everyone got tossed around in the truck," Spicer added, noting neither Meattey nor Jones were wearing their seat belts.

Spicer said there was no smell or evidence of alcohol use, but that the state would be getting back toxicology tests to see if marijuana or anything else was in Meattey's system.

He said the victim suffered an internal head injury, which is believed to have caused his death.

Jones was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The accident occurred in the area of 1003 Center Road just a short distance north of the entrance of Berry Best Farm and immediately following an "S" curve.

Spicer said the roads were rain-soaked and the shoulders extremely soft, making for treacherous conditions.
