Weather grinch puts kibosh on Christmas travel: Better safe than sorry

Snow, sleet and ice will make driving treacherous today, frustrating local travelers who had hoped to visit nearby family and friends to celebrate Christmas.

Locally, forecasters are predicting up to three inches of snow, sleet accumulations of up to an inch and up to a half inch of ice. A half an inch of ice can produce moderate tree damage, but much less can put a dangerous glaze on roadways.

The affected areas include all the Northern Seacoast and Southwest Maine.

The weather advisory is in effect till Sunday morning around 7 a.m.

Today's high won't get out of the low 30s, with temps dropping back to the high 20s tonight.

Sunday will be dry and milder with a high of 37.
