While COVID may tamp down local reveling, police will still be out in force

ROCHESTER - You might think that with all the COVID-19 restrictions and government advisories urging folks not to party hearty this New Year's Eve, police might lessen their presence on the highways and byways of the Lilac City.

You'd be wrong.

Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said on Wednesday that police will be staffing their normal pre-COVID complement of officers as a deterrent to those who might drive and as an enforcement tool for those who do.

"Our attitude is no different with COVID," Pinkham said. "We are approaching this New Year's Eve exactly as in the past."

For those who find themselves a little tipsy and don't want to take the risk of driving impaired, My Ride Taxi of Rochester will be operating tonight until midnight, possibly later if demand warrants, said driver Dennis Bassett today.

Bassett said the taxi serves Rochester and surrounding communities, noting they can't pick up in Dover but can drop off in the Garrison City. You can reach them at 603.335.7443.
