Winter Story Times almost full, so make sure to reserve yours

ROCHESTER - We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays! Don't forget, the Library will be closed Monday, January 17th in observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Next time you are in with your kids, check out the wonderful story-themed finger puppets in the Children's Room. Each one is a tiny work of art!

Writers' Group

The Library is excited to offer a new program for local writers. The purpose of this writing group is for people to have a designated time and space to work on their projects individually surrounded by others for moral support. Each session will run for two hours with a fifteen minute break for people to socialize if they wish and the library will provide light refreshments. The group facilitator, Madeline, ran a similar group at a library in Washington State with great success. Join us Thursday, January 20th from 10-12 p.m. in the Rose Room (2nd floor of the Library). Call Abby, our Programming Librarian, at

603-335-7550 with any questions.

Displays

Main Floor:

Beatlemania: Whether or not you watched the Get Back documentary series on Disney+, or are a new or old Beatle fan, we have a fab display filled with books, DVDs and CDs of all your favorite songs. Check out a few and have your own Beatle festival.

We've Got Your Back: A popular cover trend in recent years has been displaying images of characters from the back, sides, or showing shoes and boots and silhouettes. We have come up with a fun display so you can pick a book based on the cool cover. Best of 2021: See what the critics have chosen as the Best Books of this (past!) year!

Staff Picks: Next time you are in the Library and checking out at the Main Desk, check out the vibrant display of cover images of Staff Favorites. You might get a few ideas for what to read or watch next!

Artists Wanted!

hoopla Recommendation

Main Desk Librarian, Stephanie, says: "I am a huge hoopla fan! I love listening to audiobooks through hoopla because there is no waiting and I have heard some incredible books read by some amazing narrators. I just finished listening to The Hidden by Melanie Golding and brilliantly narrated by Penelope Rawlins, who brings such a variety of characters to life, you will not believe it is all the work of one person! The story is based around the Selkie myths of seals who can transition to human form and revolves around a young woman, Ruby, a violinist, who is living in an apartment that faces one across the way, where she notices a very handsome man who does yoga. She becomes obsessed with watching him, which leads to an unusual story that unfolds and becomes one of friendship and loyalty and promises kept. There are also family secrets involving Ruby's mother and sister, who is a policewoman. This is such a twisty, fascinating tale and Ms. Rawlin's narration brings it to vivid life. Very highly recommended for those who enjoy a different kind of story."

Children's Room
Cold and flu season Protocols: Cold and flu season, as well as Covid-19, is upon us. If anyone in your family comes down with Covid-19, please contact us for help with items you may not be able to return on time. Please call us at 603-335-7549 with any questions. While we love to share our books, we do not want to share germs! Please remember that if you or your child is too sick to go to work or school, you are too sick to visit the Library.

Finger Puppet Play Time: Children's Room Librarian, Christina says: "If you are visiting the Children's Room be sure to make time to play with this month's Story Basket featuring The Mitten by Jan Brett. The basket includes hand crafted finger puppets, mitten and even some snow. Children can follow along with the puppets as their grown-up reads or use the puppets to tell the story in their own words. Be creative and have fun!"

*The finger puppets and many of the Take it and Make it crafts are made by multi-talented Children's Room Librarian, Jenn. Check out her teddy bears and dolls in the lobby display case!

Winter Story Time: Winter Story Times are almost full! Call us at 603-335‑7549 or come to the library to check for space availability. The programs are free and begin the week of January 10th and will run for six weeks. They will start in our meeting room and will last about 20 minutes. We will share three to four books alternating with fingerplays, songs, and movement, and then follow that with a 30-minute "Stay & Play" in the Children's Room. This time will be for children to participate in unstructured play and socialize, while adults will have an opportunity to meet other families in our community.
We respectfully request that accompanying adults wear masks during Story Time.

Collage Rainbow~Take It & Make It Craft: Families can pick up a kit beginning Saturday, January 8th through Saturday, January 15th or until they are gone. Pick up times are during library open hours only. The kits will be inside the Children's Room entryway. (One kit per child please).

Google Eyed Bulb: When the Children's Room receives a flowering bulb as a gift we add googly eyes, of course! Be sure to check back weekly for updates on how they are doing.
