ROCHESTER - It may be the dog days of summer, but it's no time for Spaulding High School's band and color guard to lollygag.
They were out in full force on Wednesday on a field adjacent to the city's tennis courts behind the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center on Chestnut Hill Road.
In fact, they've been putting in nine hours a day since Sunday that will go through Friday, getting ready for Red Raider football halftime shows that begin in mid-September.

Spaulding's Music and Performing Arts Director Ron Goodman said his band and color guard are happy to be putting in the time even as summer vacation is on the wane.
"They take great pride in what they do," said Goodman. "And they're having a lot of fun, too."
Goodman added that each day after a long practice session they switch gears.
"After eight hours of practice we go and do fun stuff the final hour; the kids love it," he added.
Beside getting ready for football halftime shows, he said they're also getting ready for several band shows they attend in the fall and winter.
The Band and Color Guard will get their first chance to perform on Sept. 13 when Spaulding High School football hosts Winnacunnet. The game starts at 6:30 p.m.
