Witnesses say he was in Columbus Ave crosswalk when struck, suffered head injury

ROCHESTER - A Rochester man witnesses say was walking in a Columbus Avenue crosswalk was injured Saturday morning when he was struck by a car.

The man, 51-year-old Theodore Blackey, suffered a head injury, cuts and bruises and was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital and later to Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

A spokesperson was unable to immediately give his condition today.

Police responded to the area of Columbus Avenue and Winter Street around 11:40 a.m. and interviewed witnesses who said the man was walking in the crosswalk when he was hit by a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu heading north on Columbus Avenue after exiting Walgreens.

The driver was identified as Ronald Nichols, 75, of Rochester. Police said a driver's side mirror from the Chevrolet was found damaged near where Blackey was struck.
