Woman found lying in road at 3 a.m. had suffered serious head injury

SANFORD, Maine - Sanford police say a 39-year-old local woman was found unconscious on a road in the neighborhood where she lives early Thursday morning.

Detective Lt. Matthew Gagne said in a news release that the woman, whose name has not been released, was found on the pavement near the intersection of Twombley Road and Holly Street around 3 a.m.

The woman was found to have sustained a serious head injury and taken and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she was listed in stable condition.

Gagne said it is unclear what caused the head injury or other minor injuries sustained in other parts of her body.
