Youngster injured when struck by car near city school
Staff reports 6 a.m. ROCHESTER - A young person was injured Friday when they were struck by a vehicle leaving a Rochester school's parking lot. The accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when police say a 2001 Lincoln Town Car driven by Lisa Conway, 52, of Rochester, was pulling out of the parking area for Elizabeth Seton School. Unbeknownst to Conway, the youngster had stepped into the street and was walking around the front of the vehicle when Conway began to pull out of the lot. She saw the child and attempted to stop, but the vehicle struck the child, who fell to the ground. The juvenile was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital by Frisbie EMS for what were described as minor injuries. Police took the opportunity to remind citizens that school is back in session, and during morning and afternoon hours when schools are beginning and ending classes there will be increased pedestrian traffic in the area of these schools as well as between schools and dense residential neighborhoods predominantly around the downtown area. Drivers are asked to exercise caution in and around sidewalks and crosswalks that merge vehicular and pedestrian traffic at all times but especially during these periods of increased juvenile pedestrian traffic.
