Youngster injured while crossing downtown street

ROCHESTER - An 8-year old pedestrian was injured today when they were struck by a car while crossing a downtown street.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. in front of the Citizens Bank on North Main Street.

Police say that a 2011 Toyota Corolla driven by Lisamarie Hynes-Horne, 49, of Farmington, swerved into the parking lane when the vehicle in front of her stopped for the group.

The Toyota then struck the youngster, who was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife threatening injuries.

No other pedestrians in the group were struck.

The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene.

The affected area of North Main Street was reduced to one lane of travel for a short duration while emergency personnel were on scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
