Your voice: Appointing Ebola czar a bad idea

Ebola? Don't be afraid.

The Ebola scare is an outrage. 4 people in the US have currently contracted Ebola and have come in contact with about 100 people. All people are under surveillance by health officials and all of them show no signs of Ebola. It is just the media, once again, blowing things out of proportion.

Don't get me wrong, Ebola is a scary thing. Projections show that there could be 10,000 cases in Africa by the end of the year, but we're not in Africa. This is the USA. Three people have it. USA's health system is far superior to that of Africa. The living conditions are far superior to the living conditions of Africa.

The spread of Ebola was inevitable and America seemed pretty unprepared. A lot of American workers traveled across seas to help combat the disease. When they contracted the disease we just let them right back into the country. For instance, the Dallas patient that went to the hospital with Ebola like symptoms was released after they dismissed it as a fever. They didn't think to ask him or even look at his travel records to see if he went to Africa? Seems foolish to me. He then came in contact with unprotected health care workers and many other people.

A Frisbie Memorial hospital worker was interviewed about the topic. She said that people are overreacting to this illness. "There are more people dying from heroin overdoses. There are more people getting alcohol poisoning. They trained us today (Oct 30) to deal with Ebola patients. The CDC is making us reconstruct our emergency room with sterile rooms and anyone who is thought to have Ebola has to go into our airlock rooms." If hospitals aren't worried about it yet then why should we worry about it?

Obama is not helping either, he appoints a Ebola Czar for a virus that has affected 4 people in the USA. Citizens of America look up to Obama for guidance and leadership and when he appoints an Ebola Czar that will spread widespread panic among everyone. I think we all just need to step back and look at the big picture. 4 people in the US have been affected by this disease. One person has died, and 3 have been treated. America has a superior health system. We will crush Ebola and it will be a thing of past.
