Large contingents of young women and men are returning home from active duty military service and are starting college, joining the workforce, and reintroducing themselves to their family, their friends and communities.

In New Hampshire there are over 16,000 veteran-owned businesses. However, there simply aren't enough jobs to fit the skills of many of these service-members and not enough job training available to teach them different ones.

Many of these young returning veterans are also in desperate need of medical treatment. Their physical and mental injuries are greater and more severe than previous generations of veterans. Suicide rates among veterans is too high and PTSD is still prevalent and largely untreated. Navigating the VA system is a disaster. Wait times are too long, the bureaucracy is crippling and resources are lacking.

These are my reasons why veterans need to vote. The next President and Members of Congress need to hear from veterans and their supporters.

Here in New Hampshire, we have created an initiative that works toward electing people who will address these issues of reintegration, education, work-force training, and healthcare. It's called "NHGOP Vets." NHGOP Vets is a concerted and concentrated effort to mobilize veterans and advocate support for our veterans and those currently serving.

If we don't take action to elect leaders who will fix the VA problem, support better pay structures, COLAs, and training for our young military families who are currently serving then we share in the blame for the problems we will face in the future. Here in our homeland we are leaving too many of our veterans behind. It's unconscionable, inexcusable and needs to stop.

Will you join me in a loud chorus of your fellow brothers and sisters in uniform in saying: We know you will be coming home and we want the very best for you and your family. When your service is done, we will protect you as you have protected us.

We, at NHGOP Vets, are knocking on doors, making phone calls and meeting with veterans to talk about our goals and their future. If you are willing to join us, please call me at 603.225.9341. Thank you.
