ROCHESTER - Plans are already under way for Rochester's Second Annual "Paint the City Blue" event which honors police on National Thank a Police Officer Day Sept. 21.
In the inaugural event last year, some 250 yard signs, over 500 blue bows and more than 200 blue light bulbs decorated the Rochester Common, Parson Main, Columbus Avenue, and Wakefield Street.
The Spaulding High School art department collaborated and students created and displayed artwork in the downtown. Rochester Middle School students made posters thanking officers and many of our elementary schools also made "Thank you" cards.
The Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Rotary Club, Holy Rosary Credit Union, Rochester Elks Lodge #1393 and Rochester Main Street all participated in sponsoring the event.
This group invites residents and businesses to join them in showing their support of the members of Rochester Police by hanging a blue ribbon, bow, or balloon on a tree or mailbox which is visible from the street, replace a porch or walkway light bulb with a blue one, string blue Christmas lights on a small tree or shrub, put up a yard sign, or anything else in the spirit of the event. The group has purchased for distribution a limited number of bows, stickers, and yard signs. These items will be available soon.
Added to the decorative mix this year are flags for the downtown light poles and a decorating contest for businesses and citizens.
Organizers are reaching out to the business community to ask for their support in helping to "Paint the City Blue." They are asking for a minimum $100 donation toward the effort for which your name and/or business name will be included in our event wrap up and acknowledged in writing to the Rochester Police Department. We will also be thanking our business partners on the Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/ThankARochesterCop) and the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce website.
Partners are also recognized at www.rochesternh.org/NTPOD, on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ThankARochesterCop.
Checks should be made payable to Rochester Rotary Charities and return to Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, 18 South Main Street, Rochester, NH 03867, noting the donation to National Thank A Police Officer Day (NTPOD).
Questions may be directed to NTPOD Committee Co-Chair Lisa Stanley at 603-332-5506 or via email at admin@witwaysupply.com.
