ALFRED, Maine - State Police have charged four York County residents, including three from Sanford, in connection with a series of burglaries in the county.

Carleton Young, 23, Marissa Vieira, 23 and Cathy Carle, 21, all of Sanford, and Brian Cerullo, 25, of Alfred are all charged with burglary and probation violations. The arrests follow a burglary on Wednesday at a home in Alfred where jewelry and electronics were stolen. The homeowner was able to provide a description of the suspect's vehicle, which was located the next day at a home in Alfred, which led to the arrests of Cerullo and Carle.

State Police later located Vieira at a home in Sanford where she was placed under arrest for burglary and unlawful possession of heroin. Found inside her room was a large amount of stolen jewelry and electronics. Troopers said in addition to the Alfred burglary, at least five others have taken place in Lyman and Wells, and that number is likely to increase as owners discover jewelry missing.

The Wells Police Department later recovered additional stolen jewelry at locations in Sanford. Young was arrested during a traffic stop in Ogunquit.

Cerullo and Young were charged with burglary and a probation violation. Vieira was charged with burglary, heroin possession and a probation Violation. All three were being held with no bail on Friday pending a court appearance later in the day at Biddeford District Court. All three were on probation from previous burglary convictions.

Carle, meanwhile, was summonsed for burglary and violation of condition of release with a hearing at York County Superior Court next month.

State Police Investigator Jeremy Forbes said on Friday that stolen jewelry and electronics were being sold to buy heroin.

State Police are in possession of numerous pieces of jewelry, whose owners have not been identified. In addition, Troopers are seeking the public's help in locating a missing diamond wedding ring that was stolen from one of the burglaries. It was inscribed "BDL-CRD 9-15-73".
