ROCHESTER - The Library is now open on Saturdays again! We look forward to seeing our patrons who can't make it in during the work week!

Children's Room

Fall Story Time: Children's Room Librarian, Christina, shares: "Starting the week of September 13th we will offer six weeks of Story Times outside on the lawn. No registration is required. Story Times will be held Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m., where children will enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes. A small take home activity will be available. Story Time is appropriate for ages 2-6, but the whole family is welcome to attend.

We will make an announcement by 9:30am should a weather related cancelation be necessary. Watch our FB page & sign up for our email notifications at bit.ly/rplchnewsletter. Grass may be damp so don't forget a blanket or lawn chair!"

Story Time to Go will continue for those who prefer using our curbside service. Reserve a pre-packed bag with library books, a simple craft idea with directions, and a set of activities based on a certain theme by calling the Children's Room at 603-335-7549. These kits are geared for kids age 2 through 6. Themes include: Pirates, space, monsters and more. Please let us know which theme(s) you would like, and for what age range.

Library Card Sign Up Month

September is Library Card Sign Up Month! Residents of Rochester can come in and get a free card, if they don't already have one. Bring in proof of your address (recent mail, bill, or car registration) and a photo ID and you're on your way to enjoying all the books, DVDs, audiobooks and music the Library has to offer. Kids can get their first card at age 5! Spread the word and tell your friends, family and neighbors to come in and join the Library!

Library Card Sign Up Book Display

In celebration of this important month we have a book display on the main floor featuring libraries and librarians!

Craftsy Now on hoopla

Now there's even more reason to love hoopla! Want to learn a new craft? Try Craftsy, the leader in step-by-step video instruction on a variety of creative crafts. hoopla's Instant collection now includes more than 140 hours of how-to instructional content from Craftsy courses in baking, cake decorating, knitting, quilting, and sewing. Your patrons' can fine tune their craft -- or start a new one! If you don't already have hoopla, you can find it on our website under services/downloads or go to: https://www.rpl.lib.nh.us/downloads

Music CDs on Display

Main Desk, Librarian, Amy shares: "Our current music display is inspired by the many local concerts this season. If you weren't able to take in a show at the Opera House, Hampton Casino, Meadowbrook, or any of the many other music venues in our area, you will find Dave Matthews Band, Luke Bryant, Black Crowes, Fitz and the Tantrums, and many more CDs near the main desk."

Getting Organized!

Amy also has this book recommendation: "In my constant pursuit of organizing my work/home life, I stumbled upon The lazy genius by Kendra Adachi. Many of the organizing books I have read in the past utilize similar tips and tricks, which I appreciate as they work as a good reminder to touch items once, get your family to help, etc. This book, however, is chock full of new to me ideas such as consolidating jobs in groups and even included a recipe for Change your life chicken, (which actually lives up to its name). The author is relatable and has a writing style that flows nicely and is so entertaining that I went out and followed her blog as well as her Instagram!"

RPL Recommends Animated Videos

Main Desk Librarian (and syndicated cartoonist), Stephanie, and Main Desk Librarian, Karyl, have created a series of animated videos recommending books and DVDs and other items. See them on our Facebook and Instagram accounts. Our latest video is now available!

Kait's Picks

Assistant Librarian, Kait, is back this week with another great set of recommendations. Kait is well known on social media for her book reviews and has many fans both online and for this column. This week she says:

"As the first years (and the first year away from home-ers) settle into their college life, I thought I'd share some books that take place on college campuses today! Whether you're taking a walk down memory lane, planning ahead for the future, or simply looking for stories similar to your own life, I hope you enjoy these books and have a wonderful day!"
