NORTH BERWICK, Maine - The Sanford man arrested earlier this month in the ongoing sexual assault of a 13 year old girl worked part time as an MSAD 60 school bus monitor.

Kyle Matthews, 23, is charged with gross sexual assault and is alleged to have inappropriately touched the young victim, who is from Cornish, Maine, and forced the victim to sexually touch him on several occasions in 2013 and 2014. He was arrested on March 9.

At the time of the alleged assaults, Matthews and his spouse lived with her parents in Cornish, and the victim was a family friend who often visited the residence where the assaults allegedly occurred. Matthews is now separated from his spouse and was living in Sanford.

There is no indication that Matthews ever committed any offense while in the employment of MSAD 60, and Supt. Steven Connolly said in a letter on the district's website that Matthews never interacted with students alone and worked on a small bus with just a couple of students.

Connolly said all required background checks on Matthews were performed and came back clean.

Matthews' employment was terminated last week upon reports to the district that he had been arrested.

Matthews is currently being held at the York County Jail and is not eligible for bail.
