DOVER - Anne H. Shanahan, 90, of Constitution Way, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Hyder Hospice House. Born June 18, 1928 in Boston, Mass.; the daughter of William E. and Alice (Barlow) Sheldon.
She worked as an elementary teacher in the Portsmouth and Belmont school systems for many years. In September of 1955, she became one of the first single women in the State to secure a home mortgage.
She was a lifelong devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and in the days just before her passing she was thrilled to be able to hold the 2018 World Series trophy.
Anne is survived by her two sons, Dennis M. Shanahan and his wife Darlene of Dover and Daniel E. Shanahan and his wife Sandra of Eliot, Maine; three daughters, Donna J. Jeffers and her husband Michael of Weatherford, Texas, Michelle Colgan and her husband John of Dover, Colleen A. Shanahan and her longtime partner Richard Hotchkiss of Sullivan; her adopted daughter Tylene Jousse and her husband Alain of Portsmouth; one brother, Paul Sheldon of Plant City, Fla.; seventeen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was deeply loved by all her family and friends, and was well known for her political savvy and her sharp wit. She often reminded her children to "use your head for something other than a hat rack." Her sense of humor remained with her through her final days.
She was predeceased by her first husband Cecil J. Hearn, her second husband Edmund M. Shanahan, her grandson Edmund Baca, and her daughter-in-Law Cathy Shanahan.
