Moose Mountains Regional Greenways and the Acton Wakefield Watersheds Alliance will hold a 'Lake Associations Mixer' on June 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wakefield Opera House, 2 High St, Sanbornville, N.H. The theme of the day is 'Connections Between Land Use and Water Quality -- Connections Between Lake Associations'. In that vein, the program will feature a round table session for Lake Associations to get to know each other as well as several presentations about water quality issues and ways to safeguard our lakes, including the importance of land conservation.

Jay Aube, an Environmentalist for the Water Pollution Division of the NH Department of Environmental Services, will discuss New Hampshire shoreland regulations and what land use activities are beneficial to lake water quality.

Jim Haney, a Professor of Biological Sciences at UNH, will give an overview of cyanobacteria in N.H. lakes. Kate Langley will follow with results to date of the new Cyanobacteria Monitoring and Bloom Watch programs which she has been participating in as a masters candidate at the UNH Center for Freshwater Biology.

Pat Tarpey, Executive Director of the Lake Winnipesaukee Association will introduce the Winnipesaukee Environmental and Community Action Network (WE-CAN). WE-CAN brings organizations, communities, and other stakeholders together to combine resources and share information in order to have greater success and impact on preserving the water quality and natural resources of NH lakes.

During the round table session, Lake Associations of MMRG's seven service towns will be invited to share successes and challenges they have faced, to ask questions of each other and offer suggestions. Members of other Lake Associations are also welcome to attend. There will also be time for socializing, to encourage network-building between Lake Associations.

This event is free and open to the public. Complimentary light breakfast and lunch refreshments will be available. Pre-registration is strongly preferred for food planning purposes. For more information and to register, call MMRG's Education Coordinator Kari Lygren at (603) 978-7125 or email info@mmrg.info.
