ROCHESTER - Arel Burton "Downsy" Downs, 86, of Royalcrest MHP, Rochester, died at home peacefully July 3, 2021.
Born June 4, 1935 and raised in Mexico, Maine, son of Charles and Marjorie (Hatt) Downs, he has resided in Rochester since 1953.
Downsy had worked as a groundskeeper for the Rochester Cemetery Association for many years, also had worked many jobs to include: Yardman for Brock's Building Materials in Rochester, Custodian for Dover School System, a truck driver for many companies and worked as a Special Police Officer for over 13 years for the City of Rochester.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, singing songs around the house, collecting antique model cars, was known as a character in the mobile home park who would always help others, mow lawns, fixing things and assisting others financially.
Survived by his wife of 69 years: Freda F. (Farrington) Downs, 5 daughters: Louise (Bruce) Wheeler, Gloria (Richard) Morin, Sheila (Ken) Hall, Nancy (Charles) Brun, Becky (Sarah) Cote-Downs, 13 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, 1 nephew: Leroy Tripp, 1 niece: Judith Keezer. Predeceased by a granddaughter: Becky Sue Elwell and sister: Pauline Tripp-Currier.
