It’s truly rich that by now the prosecutor in the case pursuing multiple charges against Doug Robbins has probably seen all the body worn camera footage from the night of July 4, when the downtown business owner and former mayoral candidate was arrested following his fireworks display at his Summer Street garage.
It’s also likely that Robbins’ defense lawyer has seen it and, who knows, maybe ever the judge who’ll preside over the bench trial.
The release of footage from police officers’ body worn cameras is all wrapped up in state statute, but no matter what the statute says, isn’t it rich that a lot of people have seen it, but not the people who paid the half million or so for the cameras and other software to make them work.
Robbins is charged with Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Government Administration, all Class A misdemeanors that carry up to a year in jail apiece.
A felony riot charge he was also arrested on was later thrown out by prosecutors.
The bench trial in Rochester District Court is set for Oct. 27.
