Nicholas Marique ... newly appointed Rochester Fire Chief

ROCHESTER - Assistant Fire Chief Nicholas Marique has been promoted to the position of Chief, the City of Rochester announced today.

Marique has served in the Rochester Fire Department for 21 years and brings more than 26 years of experience in the fire service, according to the release. He has extensive experience throughout the ranks and has served as a Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain-Shift Commander, and Assistant Fire Chief for the Rochester Fire Department.

"Nick's strong relationships within the department, organization, and community, paired with his exemplary skills and leadership experience, made him our ideal candidate for Fire Chief," said City Manager Katie Ambrose.

Marique's appointment follows the retirement of Fire Chief Mike George, which was announced by Ambrose during the City Council meeting on March 3. Chief George retired after more than 24 years of service to the Rochester Fire Department.

"I am honored to be selected to serve as Fire Chief and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Rochester Fire Department," said Marique. "I look forward to working alongside the dedicated men and women of the department as we continue to serve the Rochester community."

Marique expressed thanks to those who have supported and guided him throughout his career, as well as to Chief George for his leadership and for positioning the department for a smooth and successful transition.

Marique also served as the Milton Fire Chief for around 17 years, spearheading the effort to build a new town fire station at 865 White Mountain Highway in 2017. He has been with the Milton Fire Department since 1999.
