BERWICK - Two Berwick residents were arrested Monday in a heroin trafficking case in which the deadly drug was brought up to the Rochester/Somersworth/Berwick area for resale after periodic purchases in Lawrence, Mass.

Justin Wicks, 28, of Hubbard Road, Berwick along with Sasha Wooster, 24 of Allen Street, Berwick were charged with trafficking in Schedule "W" drugs (Heroin), a Class B felony. These charges could result in ten year prison sentences and a ten thousand dollar fine.

Investigators on Monday became aware that a drug transaction had just occurred in Lawrence involving Wicks and the pair was returning to Maine to dispense the heroin. Both were taken into custody upon returning to Maine; they were found with two fingers (20 grams) of heroin in their possession, police say.

Wicks and Wooster were transported to the York County Jail where Wicks is being held on $10,000 cash bail and Wooster is being held on $5,000 cash bail. They were arraigned on Wednesday in Springvale District Court.

Immediately after the arrests the Berwick Police Department executed a search warrant at the residence on Hubbard Road where Wicks and others were residing. Another individual located at the residence was taken into custody for a previous narcotics violation but was later released.

Berwick Police Detective Ron Lund said on Wednesday it had been a collaborative and time intensive effort among law enforcement.

"We have been receiving information regarding Mr. Wicks supplying heroin to our area for the past 15 months," he said. "Our efforts included numerous hours of interviews, reviewing police reports, undercover purchases, countless hours of surveillance in three states along with forensic analysis of narcotics and cell phones."

"I am grateful that our police department was supported by all of these other law enforcement partners due to the fact that my agency does not have the staff, budget or technical capabilities to adequately investigate these large geographical area narcotics dealers,." Berwick Police Chief Timothy Towne added.

The arrests were made by Berwick Police with assistance from the York Police Department, Maine State Police (Troop A), New Hampshire State Police (Narcotics and Investigations Unit and Troop A), Drug Enforcement Agency (Portsmouth Office), Rochester Police Department and the Ogunquit Police Department.
