Michelle Sutton's kids probably don't know it yet, but they might be getting an extra present under the Christmas tree this year thanks to the lowest gas and home heating oil prices seen in years, maybe even decades when you factor in inflation.

"I'll be spending the extra cash on my kids' Christmas," Sutton, of Milton, said today while gassing up her car at the Milton Cumberland Farms where regular gas was selling for $2.03.

Meanwhile, in Rochester it's under $2 bucks at plenty of stations, according to newhampshiregasprices.com.

Some of the best deals include, Mobil at 17 Farmington Road ($1.95 cash only), Irving at 201 Gonic Road ($1.97), Monster Gas at 111 S. Main St. ($1.97), and Shell at the corner of Farmington and Little Falls roads, one of several at $1.99.

Meanwhile, heating oil prices remain low as well, with many dealers selling below $2 a gallon.

Coupled with a mild fall and start to December, area residents are paying less to drive their cars and heat their homes than they have for many years.

So just how cheap is the gasoline we're buying now. According to inflationdata.com, pretty cheap.

When you look at inflation-adjusted prices, they say the cheapest gasoline of all time was in 1998, when it was $1.46.

For what it's worth, gasoline cost pundits expect the price of crude oil to remain soft through next year.

Happy motoring!
