On the November 2nd ballot in Dover, New Hampshire Question Number 6 will appear and reads: "SHALL DOVER APPROVE THE CHARTER AMENDMENT REPRINTED BELOW: a. Amend § C10-2 to read: "Conflicts of Interest and Disqualification from Decision-Making Process. [Amended 9-5-1990, approved 11-6-1990 by election; 2-12-2003, approved 11-4-2003 by election] No elective or appointive officer or employee of this city shall knowingly take part in a decision concerning the business of this city in which he/she (change to they) or a member of their immediate family directly or indirectly has a financial interest, aside from his/her (change to their) salary as such officer or employee, greater than any other citizen or taxpayer. Any elective or appointive officer or employee of the city who has such financial interest in any such decision shall make full, public disclosure of such interest prior to the city's deliberating on such decision."

This question adds knowingly and limits family to immediate family while clarifying a financial interest as directly or indirectly. I very much approve of the addition of "directly or indirectly". I do, however, take issue with the additions of "knowingly" and "immediate".

By my way of thinking this is Bidenesque in character. Do you recall during the Fall Presidential Campaign Biden claimed to know nothing of Hunter's business dealings which we now know to be a gross lie? A Dover City officer or employee may avoid this clause simply by explicitly saying, "I did not know of my family member's financial interest". Vote NO on Question #6 unless you are a supporter of an elected official who may assume no responsibility for their actions and potentially mislead the citizens of Dover.
