STRAFFORD - The cause for police to swarm a Bow Lake island early Saturday was the result of a criminal investigation into a domestic violence incident in which the subject was thought to have been armed and contemplating self-harm, Rochester Police said on Wednesday.
The incident unfolded Friday night on Bennett Island, drawing Rochester and State police along with multiple other law enforcement agencies.
The individual was arrested around 1:40 a.m. and taken to a hospital for evaluation before being transported to Strafford County Jail.
"State Police were able to take the person into custody safely, and they were brought to a hospital for evaluation," Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said. "Once cleared by the hospital, they were transported to Strafford County Jail."
Pinkham said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Rochester Police do not normally identify suspects in domestic violence cases.
