Canterbury fisherman drowns after canoe overturns

CANTERBURY - A man fishing from a canoe with his financée drowned when it overturned and he went under.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at Crane Neck Pond in Canterbury.

A Marine Patrol's investigation determined that the subject was fishing when the canoe capsized. While trying to turn the canoe back over, the subject went underwater, but did not resurface, according to a statement sent out by the Dept. of Safety on Saturday. The subject's fiancée was able to locate him, pull him to shore and perform CPR before calling for help.

The New Hampshire Medical Examiner pronounced the man deceased.
