Car crashes into iconic Sanford diner, injuring patrons

SANFORD, Maine - Several patrons at the Third Alarm Diner were injured including one seriously on Tuesday when a vehicle crashed into the popular downtown eatery.

Police and rescue personnel were called around 3:30 p.m. for a three-vehicle crash that occurred at the corner of Pioneer Avenue and Washington Street where the diner is located.

One of the vehicle involved in the accident crashed into the Third Alarm Diner, injuring patrons inside.
One was transported to Southern Maine Health Care, Sanford campus, then later to Maine Medical Center by Lifeflight of Maine with what were described as serious injuries.

Steven Nolet ... arrested for having no license

The driver of the vehicle that struck the diner was identified as Mark Nolet, 28, of Sanford. He was arrested for operating without a license/

The building received extensive damage and the diner will be closed until repairs can be made. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
