Car ends up in a lake, driver ends up with several charges; more expected

ACTON, Maine - A 20-year-old South Berwick man is facing several charges following a bizarre Sunday incident in Acton during which the car he was driving ended up in Wilson Lake as he allegedly sought to elude officers.

York County Sheriff's deputies got involved around 4:45 p.m. after getting a report that somebody was attempting to break into a residence on Langley Shores Drive in Acton.

Dispatchers were told by a homeowner that they observed on their Ring Doorbell an individual who appeared intoxicated, clad only in underwear, was attempting to gain access into another home that was unoccupied at the time.

The individual fled prior to deputies' arrival, but a description of the suspect's vehicle was provided. A short time later, a deputy observed a vehicle fitting the description traveling on the Buzzell Road in Acton.

The deputy turned his cruiser around and attempted to stop the vehicle, but it took off at a high rate of speed, according to a press release from York County Sheriff Bill King.

Shortly after the vehicle crashed into Wilson Lake. Thankfully, its operator, Logan Pratt, of South Berwick, was able to free himself from the vehicle and swim to shore where he was placed in custody.

Pratt was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later summonsed for eluding an officer and other traffic related charges.

More charges are expected as the investigation continues.
