Car thought linked to killings found false, but person of interest still sought

CONCORD - Police now confirm that the a dark green Toyota RAV4 they thought might be connected to the deaths of a Concord couple in April has been shown otherwise.
Investigators have identified the owner/operator of that vehicle, and based on contact with that individual and the follow-up investigation conducted, they have determined that the individual has no connection to the homicides of Stephen and Djeswende Reid, according to a press release from the Attorney Generals Office today.
Meanwhile, investigators are still seeking to identify the person of interest depicted in the sketch released on May 17, 2022. The person of interest is described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 5'10" tall, medium build, with short brown hair, and clean-shaven. He was seen wearing a dark blue jacket (possibly with a hood), khaki-colored pants, and carrying a black backpack. He was seen in the vicinity of the shooting on April 18.

Tthe investigation to date has revealed that the Reids left their residence in the Alton Woods apartment complex at around 2:20 p.m. on the afternoon of April and went for a walk that led them to the area of the Broken Ground Trails which are off of Portsmouth Street in Concord. Family and friends did not see or hear from them after that. The Reids' bodies were recovered in the early evening of April 21 from a wooded area in close proximity to the Marsh Loop Trail.
Autopsies conducted by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Mitchell Weinberg determined that the cause of the couple's death were multiple gunshot wounds and that the manner of his death was homicide.
The Concord Regional Crimeline has previously announced it will facilitate a reward of up to $33,500.00 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible for the murders of Stephen and Djeswende Reid.
