COCONUT CREEK, Fla. - Carleton R. Lord, 81, of Coconut Creek, Fla., died on Nov. 5, 2022.

He was born April 1, 1941 and grew up in Rochester, N.H., the son of Brad and Irene (Cormier) Lord, longtime owners of Chestnut Hill Market.

Carleton graduated from Spaulding High School with the class of 1959, and he was liked and respected by his many classmates.

He then went on to the University of New Hampshire and after graduating taught science in the surrounding areas, later continuing his education by earning an master's of science from Penn State.

Early in his career he worked for the UNH outreach program, then for many years worked for the Carroll County Community Action program. His responsibilities included overseeing homeless shelters, food pantries and shelters for abused women in Coos, Grafton and Carroll counties.

Before he retired, he taught woodworking classes at the Lewiston (Maine) Middle School and won a national award in teaching, having been nominated by his students.

For many years Carleton was an avid runner and ran the Boston Marathon 5 times, 3 of them as a qualifying runner.

Carleton leaves his wife of 30 years, Leslie (Brown) Lord, two sisters, Janet Leary of Raymond, N.H., and Dolly Blanton of Avondale, AZ. He leaves two sons, Jonathan Lord and partner Helene Kelley of Montevideo. Minn., James Lord and wife Tammy of Middleburg, and a stepdaughter, Meaghan Ford Brewer of Humble, Texas.

He leaves 4 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
