ROCHESTER - Charles "Pat" Patterson Stillwagon, 84, of Rochester died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, in his home with family by his side after a brief illness.
Charles was born on Dec. 29, 1930, in Dover, N.H., the son of Edward D Stillwagon and Mildred Brennan Stillwagon.
Charles, known to most as "Pat," attended the Dover Schools system joining the Army at age 17, serving for four years. He worked a series of jobs, retiring in 1994 as a foreman in the Supply Department of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Never one to not work, after retirement he worked several more jobs ending with a 17-year employment with Walmart.
Charles was a lover of sports and a onetime avid golfer, often hitting the course with the sunrise. He will be remembered for his kind heart and spirit of generosity.
Charles was blessed with the gift of gab and loved to tell a story. Many will miss the chance to have impassioned conversations with him.
He was a proud man and found his worth in taking care of his family. He became a father figure to many throughout his life and was truly one of a kind.
Charles greatest love was his family, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He will be eternally missed by all.
Charles is preceded in death by three brothers, John, Tucker and Donald; and two sisters, Grace and Ramona.
Charles is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Grant; their daughters Traci Chauvey and husband Ed of Nottingham, Tara McAllister and husband Ben of Dover; two brothers, Bernard and Jack Stillwagon; one sister, Margaret Otis; five grandchildren Evan, Ava, Riley, Morgan and Sydney; one great grandchild, Jameson; several nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.
