ROCHESTER - Reunited childhood sweethearts Lynn Putney and Les Dodier were planning to enjoy their retirement years wintering in Florida when Dodier decided he wanted to open up another breakfast and lunch place like he'd earlier owned in Ocala.

"I said 'Let's do it, and we jumped right in,'" said Putney, who grew up in Milton.

Their joint effort will pay off next month when they open the L and L Diner in the former Cornpatch store building on Milton Road in Rochester.

Dodier, who grew up in Sanbornville, has plenty of restaurant experience having cooked at the Miss Wakefield Diner on Route 16.

"He's a great breakfast cook," Putney said.

Putney, who formerly owned her own antique store in Texas, has worked in several restaurants as well.

Together they hope to carve a niche in the area's breakfast/lunch market, with homestyle American breakfasts and daily lunch specials.

In addition they'll be open Friday and Saturday nights featuring fresh seafood and other dinner fare.

The diner is awaiting final approval from Rochester zoning officials, but Dodier and Putney believe it won't be long before they open their doors, perhaps as early as late next week.
