ROCHESTER - Community Action Partnership of Strafford County will present a Step Up for Kids Resource and Fun Fair on Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Rochester Community Center at 150 Wakefield St.

This event is offered free of charge in partnership with Every Child Matters in NH.

Step Up for Kids is an annual nationwide event, sponsored by the Every Child Matters Education Fund and co-sponsored by many other national, state, and local organizations. It brings together thousands of people in the fall to show widespread public support for children and working families. The event calls upon the administration, Congress, state legislatures, governors, mayors, and local officials to make the nation's children a top priority, according to a press release from CAPSC.

"We are grateful to our many community partners for joining us to make this event fun and informative for Strafford County families," said Betsey Andrews Parker, CEO of CAPSC. "Together, we can ensure children and their families have the resources they need to have a healthier, brighter future."

The Step Up for Kids Resource and Fun Fair will include a performance by Children's Magician BJ Hickman at 12:45 p.m., as well as face painting, a children's reading nook, cooking demonstrations and samples, and a raffle for a $50 Market Basket gift card provided by Convenient MD.

Participating organizations include: the SHARE Fund, including Gerry's Food Pantry and the Community Clothes Closet programs; Goodwin Community Health; Every Child Matters NH; SPARK NH; Fisher Agencies (handing out free child safety kits); NH Healthy Families; WellSense; YMCA of Strafford County; Rochester Pediatric Associates; Holy Rosary Credit Union; Dover Adult Learning Center; Convenient MD; Rochester Recreation Department; Seacoast Eat Local (with their Mobile Farmer's Market); UNH Cooperative Extension -- Nutrition Connections; Big Brothers, Big Sisters; Rochester Public Library; Hope on Haven Hill; and CAPSC programs, such as Outreach, Housing, Head Start, and WIOA.

"We are very excited to partner with Every Child Matters in NH for this event," said Melissa Cardin, family services manager for Strafford County Head Start. "Children are such an important part of our community, and we want families to have every opportunity to provide the children in their lives with the resources and connections that will help lead to success. We are fortunate to be part of a community that understands that the well-being of an entire family can improve successful outcomes for children."
