ROCHESTER - It wasn't even 11 a.m. yet but China Palace manager Stella Goon said they were already getting ready for what is usually a New Year's Eve rush.

Chinese food takeout on New Year's Eve has grown to be a tradition among many New Englanders, and Goon said they're preparing for another wild night even amid a raging a pandemic.

Whether people are planning a small get-together with friends, or just relaxing at home with the family, she said they'll be busy putting out takeout orders till 10 p.m., even later if the orders pile up.

Some of the most popular items she said include, chicken or beef teriyaki, crab rangoon, fried rice, lo mein and dumplings.

She said China Palace is of course following all the COVID-19 guidelines, including frequent sanitizing, social distancing and mask wearing.

"Right now we are getting ready, it will be busy," she said. "We'd like to get out by 10 p.m., but we'll see."

She said they'll open up at 11 a.m., but the orders won't get really going till around midafternoon.
