Book Recommendation

RPL Librarian, Amy, has a book recommendation she's excited about. She says: "Meet Elizabeth, Ron, Joyce, and Ibraham, residents of a retirement village in Great Britain. You get to know each of them in detail in The Thursday Murder Club and The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman. Both hardcover books are available at the library and on Libby in e-book and audiobook formats. This is a mystery series with another on the way and a movie deal. The characters are unintentionally funny and interesting. I have to say that Joyce's diary entries are the best. Even if you aren't a big fan of mysteries, I would recommend these books simply for the loveable well-developed characters that have close yet complicated relationships with one another. I can picture myself sitting in the community room having a glass of wine with them, plotting our next move."

DVD Recommendations

Amy also has some DVD recommendations this week. "RPL now has season 1 of Resident Alien starring Alan Tudyk. This show was originally aired on the Syfy network. It is about an alien that crashes on earth and assumes the identity of a small-town doctor. It is dark and funny. If you find that you enjoy the story, you can read the graphic novels on which the show is based, on hoopla, a free digital app for RPL cardholders.

You can also check out Discovery of Witches seasons 1 & 2 on DVD. So far, the show follows the book series, All Souls Trilogy, by Deborah Harkness, (also available in the library). It is about a witch and a vampire both looking for the same item at an Oxford library where they start a contentious relationship that is ever evolving. They end up having dangerous adventures, including time travel. These are just a few of the DVD movies and television series available at the Library."
